WE RUB YOU was co-founded by sisters Ann and Janet Chung. It began in early 2011 over a talk and walk through their neighborhood in Williamsburg, Brooklyn where they marveled over how much their friends liked Korean food and especially their Korean BBQ.
This got them thinking. How neat would it be if more Americans could make their own Korean BBQ? And what could that look like?
Hunger-inducing images flitted through their minds. Bulgogi and tostones, Korean steak and eggs, bulgogi burgers, Korean BBQ tacos, Korean meatball pizza, grilled Korean BBQ chicken salad, Korean BBQ corn dogs, Korean fried chicken, Korean grilled shrimp, the list goes on!
With these ideas in mind, sisters Ann and Janet decided to launch WE RUB YOU at Brooklyn Flea’s Smorgasburg to see how people would respond to their marinated meats. They were excited by how much people loved WE RUB YOU, especially having grown up in Texas in the 80s, when Korean food was known more for its funk than its soul.
Now, Ann and Janet are on their way to bottling their all-natural, traditional Korean BBQ sauces!
